connor. :newborn:

i love photographing real life families because i get to see how different families love one another.  i’ve learned that “a family” can come in many different shapes & sizes, & that love looks different from home to home.  recently, i had the honor of spending some time with this new family shortly after they adopted precious little connor.

jen & brian have been praying for a baby for years… many, many years.  after a long journey, they finally got a call they their son had arrived!  i was thrilled to meet them made it from their home state in the south to farmington, new mexico to meet their new son.  when jen first contacted me about doing a newborn session i was thrilled & loved hearing their story!  she was concerned about the fact that they would be living in a hotel until they got to take their son home & i assured her that the real life memories are the most valuable… and that this is his first “home” with them, so the hotel is special too!  brian & jen are already amazing parents… this is one blessed little bundle…

brian, jen, & sweet connor… you are a beautiful family!  thank you for allowing me to capture you in this amazing journey.  i hope to see you again soon!  blessings, js

w.t.faq… :real life lenses:

earlier this month i answered a couple of “what the faq” questions via email… ask them here & i’ll get to them… thanks y’all!

real life lens faq:  “When you are taking shots indoors with a family and low light, what lens do you primarily use? I love my prime lenses, but it seems that would be difficult in a tight space with running children.”

answer: i shoot with two cameras at every shoot!  i love to use my 50 1.4, 24-70 2.8, & 35 2.  to keep up with a busy family indoors i would use my fastest lenses… and i’m not afraid to bump up my iso if it gets the job done!  i’m renting the 24 1.4 later this month… if i fall in love with it i’ll invite it to live permanently in my lens bag for shoots too!

thanks for asking, stephany!

have a great week everyone!

steve. karen. :wedding: electra lake. durango, co

there are a few versions of how steve & karen began their love story, but it had something to do with maps & it had something to do with steve being quite taken with karen!  no matter what version you might hear, just know this… these two are in fact the definition of smitten!  karen just beams with energy… steve is really one of the sweetest guys i know & the most excited groom i’ve encountered on a wedding day!  i met them last year at casey & jonthan’s wedding…which you can see again here & here!  i immediately loved karen… i also immediately became obsessed with her antique, family-heirloom engagement ring from steve’s grandmother… gorgeous!  i loved working with them as they planned their wedding day!  karen was sweet & so excited to marry steve!  when that june day came, they gave me a lot of time to get all of the little details that i wanted to capture for them… and for two mr. mrs. sessions… everything about the day was just so lovely!  enjoy…

you may see the slideshow of this beautiful lake wedding… HERE!

lisa. matt. aidan. archer. belly. :maternity:

i was so excited when i got to meet up with lisa for a consultation… we seemed to have a lot in common & i just love moms, & bellies!  when i arrived at their home for their real life maternity session the boys were quick to make me feel right at home!  i was even invited to jump on the bed… i didn’t want to break it on my first time to their house, maybe i’ll take a crack at it next time!  they did some of the things that families with 5-year-old twin boys do: read books, walked around with a box on their head, wrestle… and then mom got a little belly mini-session because that sweet baby could come any minute now!  this family certainly is busy…

lisa. matt. aidan. archer.- thanks for a fun morning!  i am so excited to meet that sweet baby!  see you soon…
