olivia. :kindergarten:

somehow it happened.  i woke up one morning & she was 5, talking & walking & becoming a real person.  no longer a baby or toddler or preschooler, a little girl.  a young lady getting dressed for her first day of kindergarten.  i knew it was coming & even looked forward to it for months… then it arrived & i was extremely nervous, internally freaking out with a smile plastered on my face.  i just knew that she would get swallowed up by the huge school as soon as she walked in.  i worried that she would instantly start calling me “jan” & rolling her eyes as soon as i called after her to”have a great day!”  i was sure that as soon as i had her get a hot lunch on pizza day someone would teach her the “lunch lady land” song!  but, of course, in true Olivia fashion, she is rocking kindergarten!  she has mentioned missing me & her beloved lamby, she struggles with time management because she loves to chat & play, she gets anxious & shakes her hands in her cute, spastic way… but on friday she declared to andrew that she is “not nervous about school anymore & is excited to go back.”  whew!  she even told me that on thursday she played with a new friend on the playground because the little girl was playing all by herself & she thought she might not have a friend to play with… i could not be more proud of my little lady!  i am finally realizing that everything will be fine, at least as long as she still lets me hug her & whisper “i love you, have a great day!” before she disappears behind the big glass doors…

lillian. :newborn:

please help me welcome sweet, new bundle, lillian!  i was thrilled when i got a chance to take a road trip down to the santa fe, new mexico area & meet this little girl!  i have a huge love for newborns & travel & my real-life sessions… this family made my day!  i met her parents, beth & chad, at patrick & rachel’s wedding in june, which you can see again HERE!  it was a really fun wedding & i have been looking forward to photographing this baby girl since i saw beth’s cute belly in june!  miss lillian decided to make an early, surprise appearance just after the fires near santa fe stopped… she sure was a doll to hold off for the fires though, huh!  lillian was lovely & calm… she is a new mom’s dream baby!   beth & chad gave me a lot of room to work so that i could get their real-life in the real way that i love to work… this is why i love what i do!  how cute is this family… and that darling nursery…

chad. beth. lillian. – thank you for a wonderful afternoon!  your sweet family reminded me of how much i really treasure getting to do what i love to do!  i love your real life!  blessings, js

Jan,
Thank you for the time, sensitivity, effort, and talent that you have put into photographing my children’s special events this summer. We are all so delighted to have your beautiful photographs. Your pictures capture not just the beauty, but the emotions of the people and events and truly make me laugh out loud or sometimes tear over when I look at them–which is often! Many thanks from Beth’s and Patrick’s mom, Mary Jane
